Essay on Abortion is Murder - 667 Words
Many Christians and scientist wonder whether abortion is scientifically or biblically wrong. For a Christian you have to prove that God values life before birth and that he has a pro-life stance. You have to also prove that God considers the time in the womb just another stage. From a scientific perspective you have to prove that the zygote, embryo, or fetus is indeed alive. You also have to consider at what point during development it becomes alive. You would also have to prove that it is human. This would show us that killing or aborting it would be ending life therefore murdering. In the Bible there are many verses that would bring me to just that conclusion. In Exodus 20:13 the Bible states ââ¬Å"You shall not murderâ⬠. It is one of theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦They way this verse is said would make you believe the bible is pointing to conception as the starting point of life Jeremiah 1:4-5 states ââ¬Å"The word of the LORD came to me, saying, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations This passage tells us that God has a predestined purpose and a relation with us before we are born. Telling us that God has already set value on our lives even before conception The Bible also says that in Davidââ¬â¢s confession of murder and adultery, he traces his innate proclivity to sin back to his conception (Psalms 51:5) Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived meâ⬠this verse also refers to point of conception not the point of birth as the beginning of life, as do all the others. This is clear evidence that the Bible portrays a anti-abortion stance. In all countries it is illegal to murder, if you murder there are consequences but yet people do not consider a fetus something to be murdered. This statement can be proved false by proving a fetus is indeed alive and is human. There are three requirements for something to be alive. First it must have DNA, second they must take energy from the environment or there surroundings. Third they must have a form of reproduction. If you prove that the fetus fulfills all three of these requirements then you know it is alive. Abortion fails this definition for two reasons. First, abortion is not illegal, and second, there is no evidence to suggest that expecting mothers feel malice towards their own flesh and blood. Why do Nurses earn less than rock stars Free Essays
There are many reasons as to why nurses earn less than rock stars. The first, most important one, is to recognise that we are comparing these two respective salaries on a statistical basis, most likely average such as a mean, or median wage. We must take into account the range of salaries, to see how much the data we are comparing is skewed. We will write a custom essay sample on Why do Nurses earn less than rock stars? or any similar topic only for you Order Now A nurses salary cannot really vary much, as rates in hospitals (in the same area) will be similar, only varying slightly for higher positions within the nursing profession. This is in complete contrast to what rock stars can earn ââ¬â some can earn just $10 an hour, despite enjoying tremendous popularity. Others, however, can earn millions and billions, and therefore, this will mean that the results for pop starsââ¬â¢ wages will be skewed, given the wide range of salaries. Wages are set very much like price is ââ¬â by market equilibrium. Looking at the labour market, we can see that, once immensely popular, demand for an artist becomes very inelastic ââ¬â people will buy his merchandise even if the price increases quite a lot. Supply for nurses, on the other hand, may be elastic, as there are plenty of individuals who are willing to try and seek employment in that field, assuming that the skills required arenââ¬â¢t very hard to come by (to enter the profession). On the other hand, it can be argued that supply for artists is inelastic, due to the relatively small numbers of people in the industry. This argument can easily be refuted by pointing out the hordes of riff-raff and other emotional junkies who pander towards an illustrious career of fame and fortune, and attempt to become rock-stars. However, if they are not famous or are deemed lacking of the talent needed to earn that label, they will most likely not be counted as a ââ¬Å"rock starâ⬠and they will find it hard to enter the music industry and therefore their efforts will be in vain, and they will be discounted by those seeking to make their fortune by accumulating and manipulating market trends. Thus, we can see that demand and supply is inelastic for rock stars, while elastic for nurses. If you draw a demand and supply diagram, who will be able to see that the rock starsââ¬â¢ wages will be determined by a higher market equilibrium than their hospital-working (female) counterparts. Immobility of labour is another thing which contribute towards the supply of the respective professions. Being a rock star is unlikely to be one of the first or main jobs an individual will undertake in his life. Thus, stars will probably have other vocational skills ready to be of use if they suffer an untimely demise at the hands of fickle fans. This will encourage people to try and become rock-stars as they will be able to find another job later or before they strike success. Nurses, on the other hand, have less of a reason to be as occupationally mobile, as their career is more likely to be a steady, longer one, quite predictable in nature. This would mean that nurses would have to aim to try and stay in that profession for a long period of time, which may actually discourage some people from becoming nurses. However, the mobility of labour seems o have little impact in actuality as it seems that this would make supply of labour more inelastic and elastic for nurses and pop stars respectively. Geographical mobility of labour also seems to have little bearing on the supply of labour. Lastly, there are many benefits to be gained from each profession. Rock stars have the opportunity to make millions very quickly, become famous, recognised and more influential. Nursesââ¬â¢ benefits lie more in the vicinity of pension payments, and possibly the knowledge that you are helping the community. These seem to be the main reasons as to why nurses get paid less than pop-stars. Montana Mountain Biking free essay sample
Montana Mountain Biking Case Study MMB five stages of Customer Loyalty. The five stages of customer loyalty are awareness, familiarity, commitment and separation. Based on the case narrative, about 5% of MMB customers are in the awareness category because MMB logo is recognized in the mountain biking industry. Customers in this stage are aware of MMB existence and services but have not purchased any service from the company. They have limited relations with MMB because the company is not actively marketing the company product and services.Jerry Singleton needs create more awareness MMB products and services through advertising campaigns in order to increase customer awareness. Also, about 10% of MMB customer falls in the exploration stage. These are potential customers who are seeking to learn more about the company and its products. They have submitted their email addresses to inquire about the expedition. The case narrative mentioned that the number of email inquiries have increased within the month because of the trail pictures that were posted on the websites. We will write a custom essay sample on Montana Mountain Biking or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Furthermore about 10% of MMB customers are in the familiarity stage. These are customers who were probably recommended by existing customers who are pleased with the services provided by MMB. Customers in this category have purchased products and services from MMB are familiar with how they operate and may still purchase services from other competitors. Finally about 75% of MMB customers fall under the category of commitment and less than about 1% falls under the category of separation because they have managed to maintain high customer retention. Customers that fall in the commitment category are repeat customers that are satisfied with the quality of service they received from MMB.They have reached the commitment stage and would willingly recommend new customers to MMB. Recommendation of MMB Email Marketing strategy Even though Montana Mountain Biking has managed to maintain high customer retention they still need to create more company awareness in order to win potential customers. In the past the company spent $80,000 on print advertising for ads in some outdoors and sports magazines. The company is currently working with a marketing consultant to look into buying an address list and sending out promotional mailing. The cost will be $0. 0 per name rental and $4 per mailer. There are 60,000 names on the list and the total conversion cost will be about $246,000 which is very costly. MMB should therefore consider an email marketing which is less costly than mailing promotional letters and traditional method of advertising in magazines. Email marketing strategy is an effective e- business tool that would help to create more company awareness and also enable MMB to keep in touch with existing customers. Email marketing can either be done as random marketing or permission marketing.Random marketing will probably have less impact because the email will be sent randomly to various email addresses. It will not be the best route to take because these unanticipated emails may be considered as spam and will either be blocked or deleted by the recipient which defeats the purpose to the MMBââ¬â¢s intent of creating company awareness. I would therefore recommend Permission Marketing which is more effective because the emails are sent to intended recipients who have expressed interest in the company products and services. Even though the mailing list will be purchased from a company it will still be less costly. It may cost $0. 10 per name but the company will not have to incur the $4 per mail cost since the email aspect can be handled by a staff of MMB. Using permission email marketing will be more cost effective and will definitely help MMB in reaching its awareness and marketing goal. The Use of Viral Marketing to gain new customers and cement its relationship with existing customers Viral Marketing ââ¬Å"relies on existing customer to tell other people ââ¬â the companyââ¬â¢s prospective customersââ¬â¢ about the products or services they have enjoyed usingâ⬠(Schneider, 2011, p. 199).MMB customers email inquiries has increased dramatically within the past month because one of the expedition leaders started posting pictures of trails over the past year on the websites. Even though many of these email inquiries were about MMB expeditions there were also some inquiries that asked about permission to use the photos or if these photos were for sale. I think using the photos is a perfect opportunity to engage in viral marketing. MMB could include as part of its package a free optional digital photo of customers on while they are on their expeditions. These pictures can be posted on the websites and also offered to customers. This would be a great promotion for the company because customers can invite family and friends to view their pictures on MMB websites. There can also be a link on the photo page to invitation and information about future expeditions and trails. The beauty of the pictures and trails will definitely lure potential customers to be a part of this wonderful experience. Existing customers will also be pleased because they have been given another extra ââ¬Å"freeâ⬠service. They also have another means of sharing their experience with family and loved ones. This viral chain will continue as MMB wins more customers over into their client base. Affiliate Marketing Strategy for MMB In affiliate marketing ââ¬Å"one firmââ¬â¢s website the affiliate firmââ¬â¢s includes descriptions reviews ratings or other information about a product that is linked to another firmââ¬â¢s site that offer items for sale. (Schneider, 2011, p. 197). As an affiliate marketer MMB will promote other business products and receive commission for every visitor who follows the link to the sellers, website. In order to set up an affiliate MMB will have to join the affiliate program and link the affiliated product MMB website. MMB also needs to focus on businesses that provide products and services that are closely related to the services they provide. Since MMB business provides mountain biking expeditions their customers are mostly athletic and outdoors sportsmen therefore they should establish an affiliate with sellers who sell sporting gears such as Mountain Bike Gear, Accessories and Apparel. The products provided should also have good reviews.MMB can also provide recommendation to its customers and post pictures where some of their customers or employees are using these products. This would help to increase the click through sales which would lead to increased commission. As part of the affiliate program I would recommend, Great Outdoors, REI, Sports Authority, Dicks Sporting Goods and JensonUSA. These are well known sporting goods stores that promote outdoor activities sell products that can be used by MMB customers in their one week mountain biking expedition. Of the five recommendations MMB will probably benefit more from REI and Great Outdoors. REI is a well known outdoor store chair that provides great gear. clothing and equipment needed for all outdoor adventures. Great outdoors will also be an excellent affiliate because they not only sell outdoor gears but also provide information about tour events and expeditions. MMB can take advantage of this connection to advertise their tours on their website thereby creating more awareness of their business and the services they offer. References 1. Schneider, G. Viagras Team of Inventors and History
Viagra's Team of Inventors and History According to the British Press, Peter Dunn and Albert Woodà are named as the inventors of the process by which Viagra was created. Their names appeared on an application by Pfizer to patent (WOWO9849166A1) the manufacturing process ofà Sildenafil Citrate, better known as Viagra. Peter Dunn and Albert Wood are both employees of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals at the Pfizer run research laboratories in Kent and thus are not allowed to discuss their status or non-status as inventors. In a statement,à Albert Wood said: I cant say anything, youll have to talk to the press office... On the invention of Viagra, aà Pfizer Pharmaceuticals spokesperson said: Life might seem cruel, but they are paid to work for the company and the company owns their inventions. Literally, hundreds of people at Pfizer have been involved in developing the drug. You cant really point to two individuals and say they spawned Viagra. More of a Team Effortà Anyhow, to the best of our knowledge, this is how the story goes. In 1991, inventors Andrew Bell, Dr. David Brown and Dr. Nicholas Terrett discovered that chemical compounds belonging to the pyrazolopyrimidine class were useful in treating heart problems such as angina. Some experts consider Terrett as the father of Viagra as he was named in the 1991 British patent for Sildenafil (trade name Viagra) as a possible heart medicine. It was in 1994, though, that Terrett and his colleague Peter Ellis discovered during the trial studies of Sildenafil as a potential heart medication that it also increased blood flow to the penis, allowing men to reverse erectile dysfunctions. The drug acts by enhancing the smooth muscle relaxant effects of nitric oxide, a chemical that is normally released in response to sexual stimulation. The smooth muscle relaxation allows increased blood flow into the penis, leading to an erection when combined with something arousing. While Terrett is not allowed to discuss whether he considers himself the real inventor of Viagra as he is still a Pfizer employee, he did once state: There were threeà patentsà put forward for Viagra. Basically, me and my team discovered how useful the drug might be... they (Wood and Dunn) created a way of mass producing it only.à Pfizer claims that hundreds of inventors were involved with the creation of Viagra and that there was not enough room on the patent application to name them all. Thus, only the department heads were listed. Dr. Simon Campbell, who until recently was the Senior Vice President Of Medicinal Discovery at Pfizer and oversaw Viagras development, is considered by the American press to be the inventor of Viagra. However, Campbell would rather be remembered as the father of Amlodipine, a cardiovascular drug.à Steps In Making Viagra Dunn and Wood worked on the crucial nine-step process to synthesize a Sildenafil (Viagra) compound into a pill. It was approved by the FDA on March 27, 1998, as the first pill to treat impotence. Here is a quick summary of the steps: Methylation of 3-propyl pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester with hot dimethyl sulfateHydrolysis with aqueous NaOH to free acidNitration with oleum/fuming nitric acidCarboxamide formation with refluxing thionyl chloride/NH4OHReduction of nitro group to aminoAcylation with 2-methoxybenzoyl chlorideCyclizationSulfonation to the chlorosulfonyl derivativeCondensation with 1-methylpiperazine Empirical formula C22H30N6O4Smolecular weight 474.5solubility 3.5 mg/mL in water Viagra andà Lawsuits One billion dollars in sales were made in Viagras first year of production. But soon many lawsuits against Viagra and Pfizer were filed. This included a suit filed for $110 million dollars on behalf of Joseph Moran, a car dealer from New Jersey. He claimed that he crashed his car into two parked cars after Viagra caused him to see blue lightning coming from his fingertips, at which point he blacked out. Joseph Moran was driving his Ford Thunderbird home after a date at the time.

How effective was development of the Europe economic in 1500 CE Research Paper
How effective was development of the Europe economic in 1500 CE - Research Paper Example The idea of states with a standing army and bureaucratic process began to take root, and this changed the worldââ¬â¢s perspective of Europe. This paper will elaborate on the development of Europe economy in 1500 AD and illustrate how this period saw the advancement of technology by great inventions such as gunpowder, relatively advanced ships, improved navigation techniques, and the printing press would be the premise of change in Europe. Changes in Social Structure The chaos of the late middle Ages did not equally affect the inhabitants of Europe. Advancement in military technology and better pikemen in the battlefield challenged the dominance of the knights in battle; the title of being a noble began to reduce in value and stature. The Economic challenges of the Middle Ages saw an increased in labor shortages and this translated to higher prices of commodities (Acemoglu, Johnson and Robinson 57). The wealth belonging to the people In nobility was cut into by the high inflation o f that time, and this was due to the static value of land which was the base of their wealth. A large number of peasants in Europe had attained the capacity to purchase their freedom from their lords; they began to pay a fixed amount of rent instead of paying them with labor. Due to the high inflation, the rent paid by the tenants was insufficient to satisfy their needs and therefore the value of nobility declined. Not all nobles were affected by inflation; some nobles sought employment from the king and were taken on to join the army or work as courtiers. A good number of people lost their nobility status from having involving themselves with agriculture and commerce like the middle class. Despite the loss in value, nobles were still held in high standing in society; for that reason, the now wealthy middle class began buying nobility titles from the king, surrendering their business oriented lives, settling in landed in landed estates. The provision of buying nobility titles enable d the noble class to be replenished despite its rapidly dwindling numbers. Western Europe did not have any peasants by 1500, most of the former peasants owned their own land by that time. In addition to that, the middle class was getting higher due to their increasing wealth and the positions held in the Kingdom. Recovery of the Economy Europeââ¬â¢s economic rebirth happened on the foundation of agriculture. The aftermath of the conflicts in the middle ages weakened the nobles and the church that had great influence on economic activities. The reduced influence of the church and nobles led to the emergence of well-structured monarchies in Western Europe that safeguarded peace encouraging the growth of commerce and trade. Peasant s that had not lost their lives in the Black Death inherited land belonging to the deceased and were able to improve their standards of living. Agricultural production standards rapidly rose due to the fact the former peasants worked on their own land and this motivated them to work harder than they did before. The improved standards of living and food security fueled an increase in population; it is estimated that the population rose to 70 million from 50 million fifty years earlier (Janssen 89). The economic recovery had a great trickle-down effect that cumulated to the creation of capitalist economic system. The effects were: 1. The rapid population growth had the implication that

COHI - Term Paper Example The objective of this essay is to illustrate how mediated communication impacts oneââ¬â¢s life for the better, for the worse, or perhaps both ways. The discourse would initially define relevant terms to be used within the paper like communication, mediated and unmediated communication, prior to delving into determining the force of media on interaction and social life. The experiences of oneââ¬â¢s daily life as poignant examples of the far reaching influence of mediated communication would be used through the essay, as required. The ultimate goal of communication is the sharing of meaning. Andersen considers it as ââ¬Å"a dynamic process in which man consciously or unconsciously affects the cognition of another through materials or agencies used in symbolic waysâ⬠(5). Likewise, Delaune and Ladn er defined the term as the ââ¬Å"process of transmitting thoughts, feelings, facts, and other informationâ⬠(483) through verbal or non-verbal means. All definitions attest that communication is a process where symbols and meanings are relayed from the sender to recipients with the use of a defined medium. Mediated communication is clearly defined as ââ¬Å"communication that involves a process by which a message, or communication, is transmitted via some form or mediumâ⬠(Pavlik and McIntosh, 70).
